Policies, Terms, and Conditions

Service Terms and Conditions

Editor’s Status

I, the editor, am an independent contractor. Nothing in the work agreement/contract will be understood to create a partnership, joint venture or co-venture, agency, or employment relationship between the client and myself.

I cannot guarantee a publishing contract, books sales, or any other achievement as a result of services provided. I am not liable if a client uses my feedback/edits and does not reach their specific goals.

The Contract

As is standard among many editors, I use a contract that formally outlines the terms of each work agreement. Both myself and the client must sign the contract in order to move forward with the agreement.

Quotes, Invoices, and Payments

All quotes and invoices are in Canadian dollars. Payments are processed via direct deposit/Interac e-Transfer (for Canadian residents only), Wave (American residents), or money/wire transfer.

Deposits

I charge a deposit of 50% of the total project fee once the contract has been signed. This deposit secures the client a spot in my schedule and it must be paid within 3 business days, or else the work agreement is considered terminated.

This deposit will be deducted from the final invoice.

Refund Policy

The deposit is only refundable in full if the edit is cancelled before the agreed upon start date of the work agreement.

If I cannot perform the duties outlined in the work contract for reasons beyond my control or the client’s control, I will refund any amount paid by the client for services not delivered (including any unearned portion of the deposit). The client will not have any further liability with respect to the contractual agreement.

Overdue Payments

The client will pay me within 14 days of receiving my final invoice. Any payment after the due date is subject to late fees of 3% per month.

Termination

The client and I both have the right to terminate a contract for services at any time if there is a serious breach of its terms.

The contractual agreement may be terminated by myself or the client with at least 24 hours’ notice by providing written notice via email. The termination must be acknowledged in writing by the other party in order for it to be considered valid. If the agreement is terminated, the client will pay the me for work done and expenses incurred up to the date of termination. Subject to the terms of the booking fee/deposit, any fees advanced will be credited against the amount due.

  • A map of the world that shows me where the majority of my website visitors come from; underneath is a list of the top locations, by country, province/state, and city

  • Charts that track search keywords from Google and other search engines

  • A graph that shows how many views each page receives, and a chart that shows how much time, on average, visitors spend on each page, and whether they go on to click on other pages or exit the site

When you share with me your manuscript or sample text, I save a copy of your original document to my password-protected computer. I also upload a copy to Google Drive. This is to ensure that I always have access to the original version of your manuscript as you sent it to me, without any of my edits or comments.
