About
Erin Della Mattia
I’ve been a deep lover of stories ever since I was a child, and I consider myself lucky that I get to share this passion with other writers by supporting them on their quests to publication.
I am a professionally trained editor with a Certificate in Publishing from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). There I also earned a Master’s degree in English, with a focus on Victorian culture and children’s literature. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing from York University, and I also spent several years in the University of Toronto’s English doctoral program, where my research focused on trauma in coming-of-age novels by women.
While earning my Certificate in Publishing, I was awarded the Robert Weaver Award for Editorial Excellence for substantive and stylistic editing.
Since then, I’ve become a member of Editors Canada and I am listed in their Online Directory of Editors. I also copy edit for (and sometimes appear on) BoldFace, the official blog of Editors Toronto.
Beyond my editing life, I’m a writer, an amateur Tarot reader, and a horror movie aficionado. With Monica Franklin, I am the co-author of Undaunted Ursula Franklin: Activist, Educator, Scientist (Second Story Press 2024). My short story “There Are Wolves in These Woods”—a retelling of “Little Red Riding Hood”—was published in the fairy tale anthology Sharper Than Thorns (Twenty Hills Publishing 2022). My book reviews have appeared in Prairie Fire, Existere, and the Word on the Street Toronto blog. I have two dogs and five cats (three of them are black cats). I live just outside Toronto, in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
